Current Work

Meyer's current work may be understood as two distinct explorations. The first is intended to provide visual context for the bottle series by showing the vessel housed in a wall mounted surround. The housing element is intended to allude to architecture and, often, the vocabulary of kilns with the vent holes and notches of process. Many surrounds are seen in decay, evidencing intense wear over time. Some allude to the geologic origins from which they were constructed. The bottles extend the deconstruction approach, seeking an “imperfect perfection”. The second series, “Embedded”, derives from the crucible series, speculating what would be revealed by removing half the vessel to see the congealed contents of a casting effort. The textures of both housing and housed are meant to reference the sedimentary deposits revealed through human manipulation. In a sense, the geologic references return to a prior focus.
