Press & Publications
Scott Meyer and his work have been featured in many published magazines and articles. He is also a successful writer himself, authoring many articles and books throughout the years. Below is a small selection of that work.
Kiln Building
When Meyer arrived at UM, the ceramics department offered high fire glaze firing and raku firing. More significant was an aggressive environment of construction. An Olson fast fire wood kiln was built with students off campus. It was pedagogically transformative. Five years later a large donation of firebrick and supplies supported construction of a salt kiln, a train kiln and the forty-foot anagama on campus. The huge variety of firing options became available to students and faculty. Perhaps more important is a team dynamic combining student novices with professionals from elsewhere. For participants, these are classrooms on fire, teaching approaches to firing and encouraging a spirit of experimentation in which contemporary applications of this ancient tool are sought.
